Private Email Based Coaching: Only 3 Spots Left!

For over 5 years now I’ve had an almost secret, closed door by-invitation-only coaching program.

Why did I keep it a closed and private program? Mainly because I’m in a fortunate position to be very selective about who I choose to work with. And partially, because even without promoting it the program has always been full.

But after I mentioned in a video a couple months ago that I had a coaching program (even though I clearly stated that it was a closed, by-invitation-only program) I was flooded with requests to join.

Just about everybody who asked me about the program got my standard reply which is “Sorry… All of my coaching programs are full and new students are only allowed in by a personal invitation.”

But a few of them didn’t take no for an answer and were VERY persistent. And new requests kept coming in.

Like most successful marketers and entrepreneurs, I’ve trained myself to pay attention and take action whenever I have multiple clients asking me over and over for the same thing.

So I began to wrestle with the idea of restructuring my coaching program to allow in a select number of new clients.

But the problem was… My coaching programs were already at capacity.

You see… I’ve made certain lifestyle choices about when I work and how many hours I work, and I just didn’t have the additional time for new clients (unless I wanted to take it away from my family, which for me is just not an option.)

So I realized I need to do 2 things…

First I needed to clear out some spots in my existing coaching programs.

Because I have the luxury to be very picky about who I decide to work with, on a fairly regular basis, I will go through and clean house. I’ll “fire” (gently) any clients who are not fitting in with the way I work and the type of person I want to work with.

Since it had been about 6 months since I’d done a round of firing, I decided to let go of several clients who were not working out for me. Some I fired for lack of action and follow-through on action items in their business (they would keep asking the same question month after month, yet never take action on the solutions I gave them.)

Others I fired because of attitude issues. I make a point to only surround myself with positive, abundant minded people. And while I’ll certainly work with a client on mindset related issues and help them to expand and grow their awareness about what is possible for them in their lives, from time to time I get somebody who for whatever reason, simply seems to enjoy being negative and just can’t seem to snap out of scarcity thinking, complaining and negativity regardless of what I try and teach them.

In those case I have no choice but to fire them, because my interactions with them almost always drain my energy. It takes a ton of mental (and even physical) energy to be repeatedly exposed to negative people. I find myself continually having to mentally correct the things they are saying in order to prevent their thought process to infect my own thinking and mindset.

And I’m at a point in my life that if something (or someone) is not fun for me, I don’t have to deal with it.

And a few others I fired had basically just sat in my program (a couple of them for years) and asked almost NO questions.

Now for many marketers these would be dream clients. They pay me $500 to $2,500 per month, month after month, and require little no work on my part.

But for me, one of my core beliefs is that “money is a measure of exchanged value”.

So personally, if I don’t feel a client is getting more value out of working with me than they are investing, I simply don’t want their money.

Now In all fairness… A couple that I tried to fire for not asking any questions (and several in this boat are other high profile millionaire marketers) said they wanted to stay in and pay me monthly “just in case”. To them, having the ability to ask me a question if they needed to was worth the money to them and they felt that they WERE getting a good value in exchange.

One even said he looked at it like “having my brain on retainer”. (Kind of like a “break glass in case of emergency” situation.)

But I did let go of quite a few. In fact, I cleared out 9 from my email coaching program, 5 from my $1,500 per month Gold level and 2 from my $2,500 per month platinum group.

But in addition to clearing out spots, I also decided to make a few fundamental changes to all 3 levels of my coaching program to both better serve my clients and students AND get more leverage from my time, so I could bring on more students at each level down the road.

So, even though I’ve had my coaching program for over 5 years now, for the first time ever (as a test of the new structure and format) I’m opening it up to a very limited number of new clients.

In the past I’ve limited my $500 email coaching program to 20 people at a time, I’ve limited my $1,500 per month Gold level to 10 and my $2,500 per month Platinum program (which has a 12 month commitment) to only 5. And for the past few years, (except for me occasionally firing a client or two) each level has stayed full.

But to make sure the new structure works and doesn’t cause me to overextend myself, I’m opening the program up to new clients in a couple of phases.

First, I’m simply going to be filling the spots I opened up when I cleared out my “less active” members.

But, my answer to you may come in multiple different formats… Anything from a quick email reply to an audio or even Camtasia video reply.

There are 3 main reasons I’m doing it this way…

First… Some topics (like what to change on a webpage) are often best covered via video.

Second… My time is valuable! So for longer or more involved answers, it often takes me less time to grab my boom microphone and record my reply, than typing out a lengthy reply.

For a couple years I tried using voice recognition software to maximize productivity when working with email coaching clients. But because I’m always looking for ways to get more done faster and better, one day I realized that if I’m already speaking my answers out loud, I might as well be recording them!

And the third reason I mix audio, video and text into my answers is because I believe it is more beneficial to YOU. People learn in different modalities. Some people are visual learners, some people are auditory learners and some people are kinethstetic learners. By mixing up the format of my answers, I’m covering ALL the bases for you.

Also, you can put the mp3 audios onto your iPod or even burn them to CD to listen to over and over.

And if you turn my answers to you into a product (as I’ll explain in just a minute) the audio format will have a higher perceived value than just an ebook or text based product.

5. Open Call-in Days

Another way my email coaching program is different from other programs is that I will often have open call-in days, where on a first come first serve basis I’ll open my schedule up for a couple hours to answer questions or brainstorm with coaching clients who call in.

These call in days are not guaranteed every month, but trust me, if you take advantage of them when they are offered, you’ll be amazed at how much we can cover in just a short call.
