Bhavani Jampala Wins!

April 24th, 2008

hlsux2.JPGWell… It was REALLY tough choosing just one winner in my recent “I Guess My Videos Suck Too” contest, but after going through all of the responses (and there were some GREAT ones), Bhavani’s analisis of my high converting video touched on the biggest reasons why it worked so well.

So Bhavani will be receiving FREE access to my Headline Testing Secrets program that I’m currently teaching. (Bhavani, look for an email with details and your log-in information in the next couple of days.)

And if you missed out on watching the webinar or replay video of my 105 minute Headline Testing Secrets webinar, I’ve decided to make it available again for a few days.

The webinar was originally scheduled to be 60 minutes in length, but I got a little carried away and wound up going over 105 minutes.

The feedback from this free webinar was phenomenal. In fact the response to the content I delivered was so amazing I’ve decided to turn the webinar into a physical DVD product that I’m going to be releasing in the next few weeks.

Because I decided to turn the video into a product, I took down the recording after only 7 days.

But as you’ll see in just a second, for a short period of time I am going to be making the video available for free again.

And here is the reason why…

You see, at the end of the webinar I made a very special offer inviting attendees to join a small “Headline Writing and Testing” training and coaching program.

I offered a 9 module video and webinar based program, with a slew of valuable bonuses (one of which was 3 personal headline critiques valued at over $1,500.00.)

The program sold out completely in a very short period of time!

But as I began recording and teaching the first module something interesting happened…

What was originally supposed to be a single 90 minute module (Headline Writing Basics) took on a life of its own and grew into a massive 3 part, multi-week 6+ hour module. And it became clear that several of the other modules were going to expand beyond their originally planned 90 minute scope as well.

Now because of the extreme expansion of the originally planned content and in part due to the huge backlog of work and emails generated by my recent extended illness, the next modules in the course wound up getting delayed.

Now the good news is that the course is now back on track (albeit significantly expanded now) and Part 1 of the next module (Headline Writing Mastery) is scheduled to be uploaded next week.

The bad news is, because of the delay the expansion of the course and my backlog clearing activities caused, several of the original members of the program dropped out. (And I totally understand why they did and there are no hard feelings. Even with the expanded content, the delay must have been frustrating.)

Now, while that is bad news for me (and the unfortunate few who dropped out and will be missing out on the rest of the course and all of the bonuses), this is actually good news for YOU!

The reason why is this… Because I am rolling out this program primarily to generate case studies and testimonials, I want to make sure I have as many people completing the full program as possible.

So for a VERY limited time I am re-opening the doors and letting a handful of new people join.

But when I say a “handful” I really mean it.

If you are among the dozens of people who got locked out when the doors slammed shut last time, then you know that when I limit the number of people I accept into one of my programs I’m not bluffing!

So if you missed the live webinar or the replay, you can watch the entire thing for the next few days at the link below.

And if you DID watch the video last time and you want to lock in your spot in the (now greatly expanded) program, simply visit the page below and as soon as the video loads click on “Segment 9″ to jump to the special offer.

Matt Bacak Retires is a Scam?

April 16th, 2008

Matt Baccak Scam?Yesterday I told you about how my friend (and fellow pilot) Matt Bacak was giving away his $5,500.00 business building seminar for only $1 as an act of revenge against a student who ripped him off and was selling his info.

While many, many subscribers and blog readers emailed me and thanked me for recommending this amazing offer, there were a handful that were “less than enthusiastic” about the way that the continuity offer for Matt’s newsletter was handled on the landing page.

This is my fault… I did not look at the landing page close enough to see how the forced continuity and upsells were described. And after taking a closer look, I’m glad some of my subscribers brought it to my attention.

The bonus for a free month of Matt’s Internet Marketing Dirt newsletter does put buyers into a $29.95 per month subscription. And those who emailed me about it were absolutely right… It was not described well enough on the page.

I should have done a more thorough job of explaining the offer in my email to you and warned you about the forced continuity. I’m very sorry about that.

My recommendation was based on the outstanding quality of the information Matt delivers in his $5,500 workshop and the powerful, insider content he delivers in his monthly newsletter.

I’ve been a subscriber to Matt’s Internet Marketing Dirt almost since he first began publishing it and I can say with 100% confidence that it is one of the FEW newsletters that I read cover to cover each and every month without fail.

But because the offer was not as clear as it should have been, Matt has updated the page to explain the Newsletter bonus better.

In fact here is what he said in an email last night…

” It was brought to my attention earlier
today that my continuity offer was not very
clear and they were totally right - so
I fixed it as soon as I found out.”

Now a couple people sent me fairly nasty emails about recommending Matt’s offer, accusing Matt (and even me) of fraud and calling his offer a scam.

And to this all I can say is, while the offer was not as clear as it should have been, Matt is one of the “good guys”. I’ve personally known him for quite a while now and when I say that he and I are friends, that is not just “guru-speak” or a conversion tactic.

He and I REALLY are good friends, we speak at many of the same events and with both of us being avid pilots and aircraft owners, we’ve spent hours hanging out talking about flying and airplanes.

Like I said, Matt is one of the good guys.

In fact he is donating all of the proceeds of the $1 offers to Habitat for Humanity and matching it dollar for dollar.

So again I want to apologize about any confusion for promoting this prematurely without reading the landing page more thoroughly.

That is my fault. As my blog reader I should have better warned you about the $29 per month newsletter offer.

But, I NEVER promote what I don’t personally use, read or believe in.

And I can say with 100% confidence that you should get is $5,500 workshop for $1, get the first issue of Matt’s newsletter and if you don’t like the newsletter, simply cancel and you won’t be billed.

I apologize about the extra hoop you have to jump through to “get off” the monthly subscription. But once you actually get the content, I know you’ll agree that it is MORE than worth it!

Hope this clears up any confusion or hard feelings.

Eric

PS - From a marketing stand point, whether you like or believe in continuity offers and upsells or not, you should really study how Matt has crafted this offer (now that is is actually EXPLAINED better) and try and figure out elements that you can learn from and apply in your own marketing.

Particularly pay attention to the way he uses video on the upsell pages AFTER the $1 offer. If you can get over your own marketing resistance, you’ll see some absolutely brilliant strategies being used.

Take a look for yourself (not as a consumer, but as a marketer):

Matt Bacak Retires! (Is Matt Bacak a quitter?!)

April 15th, 2008

Matt Baccak RetiresA couple months ago I was hanging out with my good friend (and fellow pilot) Matt Bacak, and right in the middle of talking about the new plane I was buying Matt said…

“Eric I’m so pissed off right now I could kill somebody!”

He went on to tell me in depth how sick he was becoming at how many of the students and clients that went through his outstanding $5,500 training workshops had gone on to actually steal and teach his system.

One of them was even selling stuff PHOTOCOPIED out of Matt’s own workbooks!

We talked for nearly an hour about ways he could deal with this (and even get revenge), and Matt finally said…

“Screw it! I’ve had enough… If they want to sell it, I’m just going to give it ALL away!”

And guess what?

That is EXACTLY what he is doing.

Matt is fed up and has thrown in the towel. He is basically giving away his $5,500.00 seminar for just a buck. Yep… $1 and you get what the “thieves” paid $5,500 for and are selling for thousands themselves.

Matt has even recorded a short video where he REALLY tells you what he thinks about these scumbags!

Watch the video here:

Eric

PS - Matt Bacak is really out for blood on this one. If you want to get your hands on the system that made him over $3.06 Million last year (in just PART of his business) then watch the video and send him $1. It’s that simple.

I Guess My Videos Suck Too!

April 2nd, 2008

hlsux2.JPGLast week before I headed off to speak in Detroit at the Internet Marketing Made Easy event I recorded a quick video titled…

“My Headlines Suck”

Well… The video was just meant to be a quick market test to see if there was any demand for a “Headline Testing Service”.

Unfortunately, I recorded the video at about 4:00 am after about 30+ hours without sleep, I used an ugly background and the video just kinda’ sucked overall.

When I went back and took a look at it I wanted to cringe. I just hated it.

However, apparently those of you who watched it didn’t hate it as much as I did because the dang thing had nearly a 17% conversion rate!

Before I continue I do want to explain the reason I threw the video together so quickly (and share an important success principle.)

You see… A few members of my Headline Testing Secrets course had emailed asking if I could write and test their headlines for them.

Typically the only way to hire me to run any testing on your site is to get on the waiting list for my $1,500 to $2,500 per month testing programs.

But, because there appeared to be an interest in a “Headline Only” testing service I decided to take some immediate action to test the market and see how serious the demand was.

The key point I’d like you to take away here is that I didn’t wait for the timing to be perfect, I didn’t spend days or weeks writing a salesletter (to possibly only discover the demand wasn’t there), I didn’t even spend a lot of time (obviously) recording the video.

Successful and wealthy people make decisions quickly, take immediate (and massive) action and try to either succeed OR fail quickly!

It’s like my friend Matt Bacak says, “You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it going!”

And that is exactly what I did.

The video sucked. But it still converted in the double digits and made me VERY nice chunk of change.

I’ll talk more about the incredible CR power of video in a future post and I’ve even got the Internet audio and video guy himself, Mike Stewart to agree to do a special webinar with us in a couple of weeks.

But if you think about it, if I had written a sales letter for this service it would have taken me DAYS and no matter how well I wrote it, getting a 17% CR on a $497 service from a salesletter would have been very tough. (I have done that before and even better, but it takes some SERIOUS work, effort and target market research to write something that pulls that well at that price.)

So my question to YOU is…

WHY?

Why do you think this particular video did so good?

Was it the over the top offer I made?

Was it the words I used?

Was it the tone of my voice?

Was it because of the massive conversion power of the video format?

Was it the MASSIVE performance guarantee and risk reversal I put into place?

Or was it simply the fact that the market appears to be VERY hungry for the type of service I was offering?

You tell me… I really want to know.

Watch the video, direct it and tell me (in the comments here) why you think it worked so well, even though it was so “homemade” and low quality.

The person who posts the most insightful answer (as judged by me) will get FREE access to my closed and sold out Headline Testing Secrets course.
