The response I’ve got from yesterday’s video has been amazing. Other than a couple of nasty emails or Twitter messages from people who took offense to my comments against “redistribution of wealth”, the feedback I’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive.

I had no idea that my readers and subscribers felt so strongly about “mindset” related issues. And, I’m glad… Because, regardless of how well your site converts, if you don’t have the right mindset or don’t have the proper systems and procedures in place, you simply are not going to be able to handle the growth and sudden financial success high conversion rates will bring.

I’ve seen it happen over and over. Early on in my coaching and consulting career, I would help a business owner (or even fairly large sized companies) double or triple sales in a very short period of time, to only see their businesses or income grow faster than their ability to handle them.

While my advice and recommendations made a massive difference in their conversion rates and sales, because they didn’t have the right mindset to handle the sudden financial success they would actually begin doing things to sabotage their own success or stop the growth.

Or in other cases they simply did not have the right systems and procedures in place to handle the massive influx of new business. (You can run a couple hundred thousand dollar a year business by yourself and “on the fly”, but when your volume jumps into the 7 figures in the period of a few months… Without the right systems and infrastructure in place you are going to hit the wall and hit it hard!)

Success comes from following the right SEQUENCE… I had to get my thinking and mindset right FIRST and then the money quickly followed as a natural consequence.

But with my early clients, I just worked on the mechanics and marketing side for them (writing copy and running tests) and actually wound up getting the sequence wrong for them. I actually got it backwards. Making them a ton of sales and money, before they and their business was able to handle it actually wound up hurting them.

And at the time I justified it in my mind by telling myself, “They hired me to increase conversion rates, sales and profits… And that’s exactly what I did. If I did my job too good, that’s their problem.”

But, deep down inside it really bothered me when this kind of thing would happen.

You see, with my coaching clients in particular, I wind up developing a very strong relationship with them (and even their family and staff.) It may sound “sappy” but because I spend so much time working with them, their business, their products, and their target market I really do begin to deeply care about them and their success.

So when my “help” wound up actually hurting them, I began looking at that as me failing them somehow.

If you’ve ever heard me speak or worked with me 1-on-1 before, you’ve no doubt heard me talk about one of my fundamental, core beliefs…

“Money is a measure of exchanged value. The more value you transfer into the lives of other people, the more money you are entitled to as a natural consequence.”

This is why I get so offended when people, the media (or politicians) begin bashing the rich.

In most cases (not all, but most) those who have achieved true and lasting wealth have done so because they created products, services or companies that enriched the lives others.

Part of the reason I’m so picky about who I take on as a coaching client (other than the fact that I’m at a point in my life where I have the luxury to turn away business I don’t want) stems from this understanding of how money and wealth actually work.

If you are selling “snake oil”, a scam or some product that simply doesn’t deliver any actual value into the life of your buyer… Guess what? I’m not going to work with you!

There is not enough money in the world to get me to compromise my values and help you increase your ability to take more money from unsuspecting and innocent people. I value my integrity too much for that.

But what the scam artists and snake-oil salesman (and there are unfortunately a ton of them online) don’t understand is that they could be so much more successful and make so much more money if only they would actually deliver real value.

In the end they are only stealing from themselves.

But when you have (or have a mentor that can help you develop) the right wealth mindset, and you have this basic understanding of what money REALLY is, making money (tons of money) becomes easy.

One of the questions I tell my coaching students to habitually ask themselves is, “What can I do or sell that will deliver the greatest value to the greatest number of people?”

And I challenge you to do the same…

Ask yourself over and over, “What can I do or sell that will deliver the greatest value to the greatest number of people?”

The answer you get to that one question will almost always be an idea for a product, service or company that has the ability to generate REAL and LASTING wealth for you.

(While delivering real value into the lives of others at the same time.)

So if you didn’t watch yesterday’s video, you really need to do it. I know its long (over 50 minutes), but I can guarantee that if you take action on the things I share with you in it, you will begin to develop the right mindset to make money REGARDLESS of the economy.

Also, at the end I’m going to share with you a way you can get the opportunity to work with me 1-on-1 to take your mindset and business to the next level.

For the past 5 or 6 years my coaching programs have been closed door, and by invitation only. And they were always full.

But because of some recent changes I’ve made (and as you’ll see in the video clients I’ve “fired”), I do have a couple open spots left.

Most of the spots were taken yesterday, shortly after I released the video, but I do have room for a couple more people. (If you meet the application requirements.)

So watch the whole video, pay attention and then take action!

  • Very interesting information. More of us would like the “problem” of sabotaging ourselves after we’ve made a loot from conversion tactics!

  • Hi Eric,

I happened to be in the middle of writing a ebook for my new web site when I got your email and sat down right then and watched the video. As it turned out, it was exactly what I needed to hear at that very moment! Thank you! In fact, the whole idea of mind set just fit right in to what I was writing. I agree with you completely. Without the right mind set and consciousness, what we do in the outer world won’t help much. At least that’s been MY experience. Thanks for the inspiration.

  • Having positive mindset on the Internet pays off in regular life too. We had snow today in Denver and while driving, I turned the wheel to go around a curve but the car just kept going straight toward a parked car. If I had not had the mindset that the wheels would catch their grip in time, panic would have surely allowed me to crash into the parked car. Goes to show when you make it a part of your life to be positive, positive finds you when you need it unexpectedly.

  • [...] One thing is clear, this is the time of year (rather, it is probably too late isn’t it?) to focus on cart size and conversion. Take a hint from “those brits,” pay attention to landing pages and the conversion funnel or heck, use your mind. [...]

  • It has been my experience, that without a positive mind set one is not able to succeed on the internet or in the real world. I do go along with Mike when he says; “More of us would like the “problem” of sabotaging ourselves after we’ve made a loot from conversion tactics!” completely. I am trying to build websites that will convert well and go along with my main blogs which I realize need a bit of renovation. I am working hard on all of this but can only do one thing at a time. I just wish I could ferret out the unnecessary emails I get and put a stop to them.

  • Rex

This is totally legit. I’ve noticed it in my law practice. When I don’t want new cases, guess what? That’s right, they don’t show up. I’ve spent years working on having a wealth mindset and it has been well worth the effort.

  • Great post. An important mindset is key in anything you do as long as you IMPLEMENT!

I can’t wait to hear what you have to say about conversion on the 2009 Prediction Call.
