I Have The Coolest Toy in The World Sitting on My Desk! DON’T TOUCH! It’s Mine…

  • Google Buzz

8ball.jpgDo you remember those “Magic 8 Ball” toys we had when we were kids?

You would ask it any question you could dream up, give it a little shake and WHAM!   Out would pop the answer.

Man, those things were cool…

Well…   Guess what?   I’ve got something even better sitting on my desk.

I’ve got a “toy” so cool and powerful, you couldn’t pay me $100,000 to part with it.

I’ve only been playing with this toy for about a month now, but it has “popped out” answers so profound and so profitable I’m beginning to wonder what I ever did without it.fortin-notes.jpg

This toy is so valuable to me that I went out and bought a $150 Italian leather 3 ring binder to put the golden answers that keep popping out of my new favorite toy!

So what is this amazing, super valuable, profit producing toy I have sitting on my desk?

brain.jpg

Michel Fortin’s BRAIN!

Yep…   That’s right.   I have access to Michel’s brain and anytime I want, I can pick it up, give it a shake and out pops the most brilliant and insightful answers to ANY question I can possibly think of.

When I’m stuck for a headline…
I shake MICHEL’S BRAIN.

When I need advice on how to handle a “problem client”…
I shake MICHEL’S BRAIN.

When I’m looking for a “fresh” variable to test…
I shake MICHEL’S BRAIN.

A few weeks ago I “shook” MICHEL’S BRAIN and out popped an answer to a question I asked about “copywriting royalties” that will earn me AT LEAST an additional $150,000 this year, just from one project.

MICHEL’S BRAIN is the most valuable toy I’ve ever had the good fortune to play with.   (And I have some EXPENSIVE tastes in toys!   I go through airplanes like my wife goes through shoes!)

When I was growing up, I was an only child.   So I never really had to learn to share my toys…

But…   Now that I’m a bit older and wiser, I recognize the value in sharing my toys with others.

So, I’ve decided to let you use my toy for free.   Yep…   I’m going to LEND you MICHEL FORTIN’S BRAIN.   (I want it back when you’re done!)

You can shake MICHEL’S BRAIN and ask ANY question you can think of about copywriting, marketing, success, goal setting, product creation, Canadian vegetarian recipes, ANYTHING!

The only limitations are, you can only ask ONE question per comment (but you can leave as many comments as you would like) and only the single BEST question submitted by my readers will be answered.

So REALLY put some thought into this…

If YOU had Michel Fortin’s brain “captive” and he HAD TO answer any question you asked…

What is the single most important question you would want answered?

And, if you ask the BEST question (as determined by me) you will get your question answered right here in my blog by Michel Fortin himself!

(Unless you’re willing to shell out big bucks to get one of Michel’s limited consulting or coaching slots, this may be your ONE and ONLY chance to ask Michel anything you want. Make it count!)

So let’s hear those questions!

    Eric and Michel,

Thank you for this opportunity but frankly I am having a hard time figuring out what to ask. So many things come to mind but one item rears its ugly head more than others. It’s about how best to determine the scope of an engagement.

I am not a copywriter. I am also not a graphic designer. And I am definitely not a programmer. But I do work with clients to expand their web presense and to convert their visitors to customers. And I am good at that. What I am not good at is determining the scope of the engagement. Invariably my engagements last longer than planned and the number of tasks involved have inexplicably expanded. Part of my problem, I am sure.

I know this must be a problem with others too… especially with those like me who trade hours for dollars as a consultancy.

Hopefully I’ve given you enough background to give me your thoughts on this, especially since you are a copywriter yourself, you’ve been through this.

  • One and only chance?

    Hmmm…

    Eric,
When you were a child, did you ever think about this?

You find a genie in a bottle. Instead of three wishes, the genie only gives you one.

    What would you do?

Of course the only logical question for the genie would be:

“I wish I could have unlimited wishes”

Without hesitation the genie says with a smirking, sheepish grin…

“Your wish is my command!” *POOF*

So, now you spend the rest of your life wishing your life away, but nothing ever happens. All you have are your thoughts, hopes, and dreams that never get any results.

    What happened?

You forgot one vital piece… you didn’t mention anything about having these wishes “granted”.

So, I’ve given this some thought. Your rules are very clear. They state that we only ask one question.

But there isn’t anything here that says how in-depth the answer will be.

So, my one question requires more than a simple, one-sentence answer. Instead, my request will require a short series of answers.

    Are you with me?

    OK, here’s my loaded question…

    Michel,
If you had to start all over again from scratch (knowing what you know now and given the tools now available), what would be your step by step strategy be for creating a money-making business online? (bulleted points are ok for the answer).

    Thanks Michel.

…and thanks to you also Eric for creating such a great service. You really are one of the most knowledgeable conversion experts I’ve ever met!

People visitng your website should lock the doors, close off all distractions, and spend some “quality time” digging through your archives.

Better yet, they should simply hire you to put together a winning strategy for growing their business.

By the way Eric, simply ignore my “butt kissing” remarks above. I wouldn’t want you to feel obligated in any way. LOL.

  • Michel,

I run a monthly-fee membership website. I am planning to add a free account in the near future with limited functionality. Would it be better if I instead have a $1 account so I can be sure people are serious before joining? My plan is obviously to get them to upgrade to a paid monthly account at some point in the near future.

    Thanks!

    Chris

How hard was it to keep going in the beginning, while learning your craft of copywriting?

  • Mark Williams

How have you been able to cope with procrastination?

Too many times, I have known what I needed to do, and I ALWAYS end up waiting weeks on end to do it (like get this letter written today, get this blog post out today, etc.), IF I get it done AT ALL.

I used to think that it was ADD, but I realize that it is just an excuse I mind came up with to stop me.

I would like to know your ideas and comments, because I am THIS close to just seeing a hypnotist to get it over with, because the willpower thing does not always work.

Maybe, I am afraid of success?

  • These are some outstanding questions!

Anyone else what a shot at picking Michel Fortin’s brain?

TO Michael, do you still have any of your copy on fire DVDs left?

  • Eric;
I’ve been thinking about what I’d ask Michel since you wrote this post. Here’s my question for Michel.

    Michel;
As a musician, copywriter, and marketing expert, you have a unique combination of skills and experiences. In addition to being a programmer and aspiring Internet business entrepreneur, I’m an amateur singer/songwriter. I’m building an Internet business to create income so that I can work less and spend more time doing what I want to do, which is music. Do you think it’s possible to use Internet business and marketing techniques such as those taught by you, Eric Graham, James Brausch, etc. to successfully promote and even make a profit from self produced CDs, and related music products? I’m not 20 anymore, I have a family, and I can’t take the “normal” route of playing in bars and clubs every night to promote my music. In other words, I want to do it “backwards”.

If you think it’s possible, what are the significant differences between what you’d do to sell the typical Internet marketing course vs. selling a music CD? What are the steps would you take, things you would implement, etc?

    Thanks,
    Fred Black

  • Hi Genii – Would you look at my web site, please. I get enough traffic and I get enough forms. But my auto-responder and my subsequent quote simply doesn’t cook. Please try it and tell me why. Kind Regards – Brian.

Where or how is the best way to learn to make the emotional connection with your customer — the emotional connection that must be at the root of all one’s copywriting?

Thank you for the phenominal opportunity to pose a question to Michel Fortin.

So here is my scenario and subsequent question:

I am offering a web hosting service to a local offline niche (professional business women) and am looking to offer 3 graduated packages, with varying storage/traffic capacities and premiums/bonuses.

I am wondering which way of presenting the offers to prospects would result in a more qualified and profitable customer relationship.

Idea 1. All offers side by side, with differences noted by a comparison table
Idea 2. All offers listed in smallest to largest
Idea 3. Single sales page for the Smallest/Lowest Offer, and if they take up the call to action offer an upgrade option to next level and repeat until the largest package is presented and accepted or declined.
Idea 4. Option 3 in reverse, largest to smallest.

I believe that this type of question and the reasoning behind Michels’ answer would be of great benefit to all online business people who realise the value of their clients over time and ofer recurring membership/service style products to the marketplace.

Thank you again for the opportunity of posing this question to a copyrighting and testing great.

    Fiona

  • WOW! These have been some absolutely outstanding questions!

I’ll post the “winner” in a couple of days. (And, I’ll post a way that we can get more than just one of these questions answered by Michel…)

    Stay tuned!

  • I love that Michel has created a website and his blog with WordPress. They both LOOK awesome. So my question is who is his techie doing all this great stuff? Is it in-house or hired?
