Living The 4 Hour Workweek…
Although he was already part of the NR (New Rich) before he even read the book, my friend James Brausch has done what probably 98% of the people who have read “The 4 Hour Work Week” have not done.
He has embraced the concept of “mini retirements” and has moved his entire family down to Costa Rica for the next two months.
(You can read about his adventures at his blog here: JamesBrausch.com
And rather than do the tourist thing and stay in a hotel in the “Americanized” part of town like most visitors, they have rented a nice little villa right in the heart of a “Tico” (the term Costa Ricans usually refer to themselves as) neighborhood.
Now, I’ve recommended The 4 Hour Workweek to dozens of friends and clients over the past few months. But James is the ONLY one that I know of who has actually taken such a massive action and actually made an international move to enjoy a mini retirement.
While I’ve adopted many of the recommendations in the book and outsourced even more of my (already fairly outsourced and systematized) life and business, even I have yet to make the leap and take my first mini-retirement.
So while James and I are both part of the “2%”, he has demonstrated that even among those of us who are already fairly successful, taking massive and focused actions on how you want to live can turn a “2%er” into a “0.2%er”!
Congratulations James!
If we can get Christina’s passport expedited in time, we’ll be down there to see you sometime in mid-October.
Eric
P.S. – Now to pull out the maps, gather the family and figure out where to head on our first mini-retirement… Anybody know what a house rents for in Wellington, New Zealand?

about US$300 a week for a lovely suburban home and bring your own bagels apparently we don’t have ‘authentic’ American bagels.
BTW - I really enjoy reading your blog
