It looks like Seth Godin is looking for me…

Earlier today Seth Godin posted a all points bulletin on his blog (click here for the full post) looking for small companies or experts who specialize in evaluating and tweaking websites to optimize performance and conversion.

(I don’t know about you… But that sounds just like what I do.)

While most experts will tell you that you need to test and tweak your websites, few if any will tell you WHAT to tweak and HOW to test it.

But that is exactly what I give you in my Conversion Booster Video Website Evaluations.

Here’s exactly what Seth said:

If I want my car to go a bit faster, there’s a garage in town that will tweak it for me.

If I want my stereo to sound a little better, there’s a guy who will install cables and such and upgrade it.

There are more than a billion websites. Where are the tweakers?

Where are the talented individuals and small firms that want a closed-end engagement… not to completely redesign a site that’s working, not to do any coding, but just to mess with the html and css a bit.

To take their learning from many clients and figure out that this works better than that.

To change the look and the feel but not the bones… plastic surgery for websites. Not a lot of meetings, not a lot of belief required. Instead, take the new one, take the old one, do a split test and see which one converts better.

I figure if I’m looking for a tweaker, others are too. Send me a few details and I’ll post a short list.

The part that hit me the most was:

“To take their learning from many clients and figure out that this works better than that.”

This is exactly what I have done. Between the testing I have done for my own sites and the testing I do on a daily basis on my clients sites, I’ve conducted over 6,000 split tests on hundreds of websites from dozens of industries.

While there are many companies and consultants out there who will look at your site and evaluate it for you, 99% of them are web design companies, simply getting their foot in the door to pitch you some five figure, complete re-design package.

Like Seth says, the real need is not to completely redesign a site but to help make small, strategic changes, tweaks and tests that boost conversion.

Well… If (like Seth) you’re looking for such a “site tweaker”, I’m your guy!

Happy testing,
Eric

      Hi Eric,

I think a large part of the problem is simply the fact that there isn’t a commonly accepted term for people or companies that specialize in improving conversion.

Before the terms SEO or SEM existed, I’m sure there were people that provided such services, but if you don’t know what to call something, it can be extremly hard to find it.
